The spec screenplay is the primary tool for breaking into the industry as a screenwriter. It acts as both a sales document and your business card. It should represent your voice and how you see the world. This class will focus on how one establishes that voice on the page and how to choose an idea that best expresses your attitude through story- telling, specifically the medium of screenwriting.
“If your mother loves your script, throw it out. You have been neither truthful nor provocative.” - Anthony Grieco
Writer, author, and story specialist Anthony Grieco will walk you through his unique VATTSmethod.
Voice = Attitude =Truth =Theme = Story
These are the components that will lead you to develop the character, story, plot, and ultimately the structure that will leave an impression upon the reader.
Anthony will also take your through his own journey of how a spec script landed him in Hollywood, got him representation, and how two of his spec scripts are now in pre- production. *Be warned, this is a no-nonsense class that will candidly discuss the intangibles that stand between you and getting your script sold. It is not for hobbyists, daydreamers, or the faint of heart.
The class will also focus on:
- Finding literary representation
- Genre and budget considerations
- Navigating producers
- Finding support systems
- Targeting screenplay contests
- Building a routine
