Hollywood isn’t just a place. It definesan entire industry of movie making.  Gary Goldstein, producer of ‘Pretty Women’, ‘Under Seige’, ‘The Mothman Prophecies’ and other blockbusters, gives you an inspiring, insider taste of how to make the most of your opportunities, and pave your own path down the sidewalk stars of Hollywood.

The Write Idea with Jeff Lyons

Every screenplay starts with a concept. Learn how to determine whether your story is screenplay worthy, and how to use genre to launch your career.  Learn ‘what’ to write to attract producers and agents to your work.

Characters aren't all the same and there's no reason they should have to play by the same old rules. This class challenges your characters to be active in their own story, help them find their voice and drive their own story.

Blake Snyder redefined structure and set the industry on fire with new terminology and humor in his popular, industry standard ‘Save The Cat’ book series.  Learn what story beats need to happen in your story, on what pages, and when with Master Cat, Jose Silerio.  Have your characters experience their own ‘Dark Night of the Soul’, ‘Fun and Games’, ‘Finale’, and other crucial moments in your script, and you too will be a master at screenplay structure.

Theme with Ruth Atkinson

Find the heart of your story by discovering theme.  Writers often find this aspect of their work the most difficult to explore, many times because of the personal issues they need to explore to do so.  Take away the intimidation and pressure, as Ruth shows you how to find the theme in your scripts, and helps to elevate your work from good to great.

Presented by the Launch Pad

Join your fellow writers for a three course meal as you lunch and learn from a panel of agents and managers.  You will have a chance to network with your fellow writers over a delicious meal, and there will be 2-3 professional staff writers from various tv shows seated at each table to join you.  Then Agents and Managers from some of the top companies in the business will discuss some of the strategies you can use to get representation, and how an agent or manager can help you to build your career.

This luncheon is only available to those who have purchased a full day Career In A Day session.

Legally Speaking with Larry Zerner

This is a power class on what every screenwriter needs to know to protect themselves legally.  Learn what you need to know before signing an option agreement, and how to get the rights to a story you want to adapt.  Protect yourself and your script with this legal intensive session so that you have a basic understanding of what you must know to be a professional screenwriter.

 

2:30pm - 3:00pm

Pitching with Bob Schultz

What are the secret ingredients of every great pitch?  Make sure you identify your genre, title, a relatable protagonist, their goal, and the obstacles in their way.  Tell us how your character changes and what they learn, and you have decorated your pitch with the frosted cream icing that every producer loves.  If you have never pitched before and are worried about what to do, give yourself the gift of confidence by taking this class and you will be an expert by the time you have finished.

The film and television business is all about relationships.  How do you make great connections with others, and maximize your networking opportunities?  How do you market yourself and create a brand for yourself as a writer?  Learn how to master your networking skills, make crucial contacts to further your career, and followup like a professional to fill up your virtual rolodex.

A Shot Of Inspiration

After a full day of intensive, power classes like these, leave feel excited and inspired about your future as a screenwriter.  What will your next steps be?  Where will you go from here?  What does your future look like?  Wine’d up the day with a glass of vino and join us for the Executive Party, starting in the foyer from 6pm-7:30pm, and then moving to the poolside patio from there.  Congratulations on a great day of learning!
