SR (TM) believes that through raised awareness, expanded knowledge about diverse cultures, and the human condition as a whole, it is possible to create a better world free of violence, hate and crime.

SRSocially Relevant (TM) Film Festival New York shines the spotlight on filmmakers who tell compelling, socially relevant narratives across a broad range of social issues without resorting to gratuitous violence and violent forms of movie making.

SR films concentrate on human interest stories, character driven situations, and good storytelling. SR films can be commercially viable and can become box office successes if made well and distributed through the proper channels and platforms. SR (TM) Films are enlightening, uplifting, entertaining, but most of all artistically appealing.

SR - Socially Relevant Film Festival New York is a festival that focuses on socially relevant film content and human-interest stories.

SR aims to showcase socially relevant films of high artistic value that educate, enlighten, entertain, and that can be commercially viable. Socially Relevant films can be funny, dramatic, romantic, adventurous, comical, suspenseful, intellectually challenging, historical, psychologically inclined, or tell a story that matters. In short, Rated SR films can be anything BUT boring!

THE MISSION of the Festival is to spotlight filmmakers who are producing films that tackle the social and environmental issues of the day without relying on gratuitous effects, loud soundtracks and sensationalism to draw in an audience.

Founded by Artistic Director Nora Armani, Rated SR is based in New York. Rated SR launched in Manhattan, the entertainment capital of the world where films were screened over the course of one week from March 13-19, 2017. March 2014 marked the festival's inaugural year with Keynote speaker Amy Goodman of Democracy Now and a host of visiting filmmakers and producers.

An international slate of 55 films from 18 countries including the USA screened in the inaugural edition. The films were shorts, documentaries and features.

The festival's second edition took place in March 2015, from the 16-22nd, and was spread over 4 venues for screenings: The Tribeca Cinemas, The Maysles Cinema, The Quad Cinema, CUNY Graduate Center Proshansky Auditorium, and the School of Visual Arts for the Industry Panels. The festival screened 53 films from 33 countries and held 4 industry panels in Distribution, Storytelling, Diversity Casting and Cinema as a Social Change tool, and honored with a Lifetime Inspiration Award Albert Maysels thelegendary Documentary filmmaker.

The festival's third edition took place at the Bow Tie Chelsea Cinemas from March 14-20, 2016, and screened 49 films from 33 countries with many awards being presented to deserving and talented filmmakers.

Filmmaker Q&A's followed the screenings in most instances. The festival is devoted solely to filmmakers of socially relevant content.

The launch of the Socially Relevant film festival coincides with the growing trends related to socially conscientious consumers who seek alternatives to the invasive films that rely on gratuitous violence and sensationalism to make a box office entry

One of two best screenplays submitted to the festival will be selected by a special jury and presented a prize courtesy of Final Draft in the form of a download certificate for the latest scriptwriting software. Also an inclusion, free of charge, on the InkTip website, whereby producers discover the winning script amongst many posted there.

There are additional prizes such as:

And other surprises.
