Returning for its second year, Lorne Film continues to nurture and promote Lorne and the surrounding Otway region as a centre for film culture and commerce, a port of call for industry leaders and world-class talent. In creating a ‘film market’ Lorne Film will capitalise on Lorne’s history as a meeting place where in people will come from across the planet to buy, sell, talk, and think film.
Saluting filmmakers as visionaries and story-tellers, Lorne Film 2014 will continue to attract content from Australia while globally demonstrating the universal power of films.
Lorn Film 2014 Australian Screenwriter Award
Lorne Film wishes to support an Australian screenwriter of exceptional talent who has an advanced screenplay in any genre. This support will come via a cash prize that can be used for late stage development of an Australian feature film to help the writer advance his or her project closer to production.
The selected screenplay will feature at Lorne Film 2014 via a rehearsed live reading at the 350 seat Cumberland Resort Auditorium. This reading will be conducted by an experienced director and professional cast, with a view to attract potential producers, investors etc. to the event.
Currently there is a significant short fall in available funding for writers for the Australian Film Industry as per the traditional agencies. Lorne Film considers this to be a concern, and in accordance with the Lorne Film Charter and our commitment to leadership, it is our intention that the Festival will provide an opportunity to nurture screenwriting talent at the early stages of a career.
Australian screenwriters who are at an advanced stage in the development of a screenplay are invited to submit a one-page synopsis and a history of the screenplay to date, including development notes to take it to a next draft. In addition, Lorne Film will seek a one-page statement from the applicant as to how they intend to use both the cash prize and ‘in kind’ support.
Applicants will be asked to submit their application by July 31st 2014. This will allow the judging panel sufficient time to work with short listed applicants where necessary.
Applicants must be prepared to have their screenplay with a full cast presented at Lorne Film 2014 on Saturday, November 15th 2014. To be successful, applicants must be available to be at Lorne Film 2014.
