O'Rourke Script Wins Grand Prize at Yosemite

In 2000 Michael O'Rourke embarked on a mission to write a screenplay about the cultural and environmental impact of the Gold Rush on the indigenous tribes in Northern California.  15 years, 7 staged readings and 26 + drafts later Yosemite International Film Festival gives "In the Land Where Acorns Dance" the Grand Prize for Screenwriting.

O'Rourke Adaptation Is Oaxaca 15 Official Selection

Michael's feature adaptation of Winona LaDuke's novel "Last Standing Woman," has been chosen an official selection of Oaxaca Film Fest 15 Global Script Challenge.  Movie Maker magazine calls the Oaxaca Fest "one of the best in the world."  Winona's powerful novel, now in its 2nd edition, traces the lives of seven generations of Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) on the White Earth Reservation in Minnesota.  Michael's two shorts based on excerpts from Winona's book placed as finalists in the Starz Denver Screenplay Competition and the Nashville Film Fest Screenplay Contest earlier this year.
