Joshua Keller Katz Wins Bronze Award in Beverly Hills Screenplay Contest Winner, Bronze Award, Comedy: The Secret of Sleep

This dark comedy came about from my real-life days as a US Navy veteran turned repo man. Basically, I took the most entertaining experiences I had and wrote a story around them. The script is also laden with my dark sense of humor that helped me stay sane throughout two wars, and the diverse characters let me approach that humor from different angles.

Synopsis:

An insomniac repoman obsessed with a narcoleptic woman deals with irritating customers, judgmental family, and crazy drug smugglers. (Dark Comedy/ thriller)

Joshua Keller Katz Placed Top 10% in Blue Cat My first original screenplay, The Secret of Sleep, placed in top 10% in the Blue Cat Screenwriting Contest!

Since this was a revision that was submitted, I have included what the judges feedback stated in the "what do you think needs work" section:

"I don’t have a lot for you in this section this time around. I feel like you’ve done a nice job addressing the issues I had with the story previously, and what I read today feels like a very original, compelling, well-structured, thriller with real potential. "

Joshua Keller Katz' "Leapers" is a PAGE Awards Quarter-Finalist

Of the 3 original screenplays entered, 2 placed in the top 10%: Concussed and Leapers

Leapers takes place in my hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. It highlights the problems of homlessness, violent gangs, and suicide. But don't let the dark tone fool you; I feel this script has plenty of humor and action to keep people interested regardless of which genre or tone they favor.

Synopsis:  Obsessed with a woman he sees in a vision after striking his head, Alex looks for answers in a support group where the members voluntarily give each other concussions and share their vision experiences.

Joshua Keller Katz' "Concussed" is a PAGE Awards Quarter Finalist 2 of the 3 screenplays entered into the PAGE International Screenwriting Awards, CONCUSSED and LEAPERS, placed as quarter-finalists!

CONCUSSED is an idea that just popped into my mind in an instant, almost in its entirety before I even attempted to write the screenplay. The hopeless romantic in me felt the need for a romantic comedy with an element of fantasy.

Logline: Drawn to a bridge where people often jump to their deaths, a troubled veteran is befriended by a homeless fisherman and struggles for love and redemption with a strange but beautiful young woman.
