Kylie Garcelon wins Best Woman Filmmaker - Canadian Diversity Film Festival
Kylie Garcelon, writer-director of her short doc, The Culinary Professor, has won Best Woman Filmmaker at the Canadian Diversity Film Festival (Dec 2016).
Garcelon made the film with funding from a small GoFundMe campaign, but without crew or post production. The film follows the journey of Chef Jean Claude as he doggedly pursues the establishment of a hospitality/culinary training program in Northern Haiti after the 2010 earthquake decimated more than 80% of Haiti's higher education infrastructure.
Garcelon said 'An award in this festival is special because the festival focuses on diversity and inclusion. My goal has been to shed light on the power of culinary education in the developing world and to demonstrate that when we help each other, we all benefit'
