Biography

Kai Grayson is a Black, queer woman from Los Angeles who writes scripts that inspire and spark wonder in the minds of the newest generations. Growing up in a world run by Black women, Kai’s main characters often follow a diaspora like her own. Having had to become strong and independent at a young age, often believing to have been raising herself, parents are often not a strong influence in her stories. Every character is strong and independent and can take on any challenge thrown at them, all while making plenty of time for fun and shenanigans. That mix of strength and goofiness is a direct reflection of Kai’s personality that she hopes will give young Black kids the confidence to be their full bright, magnificent selves.

Kai went to Emerson College to study directing live-action film and while she was there she studied in London, England. While studying in London, Kai realized her love for all things animated and the important messages that children can learn from animated series. Upon her return to the USA, she began to pursue a career that centered on educating and entertaining children. After graduating, Kai moved to Tokyo, Japan and worked as an entertainer and educator for Japanese kids that wanted to learn English. She taught the fundamentals of the English language while singing, dancing, and playing with kids aged 0-18. That experience circled back to her passion for children’s media and sparked inspiration for what kid’s content she creates.

Her stories combine aspects of magic, imagination, and life lessons to entertain children all over the world. Not only do her stories entertain but they teach the world's life lessons in nuanced ways. Need to teach about sharing? Why not have two witches arguing over a potion that spills and turns them both into crickets. Want to teach your kids about the importance of showing love? Why not have a powerful superhero embark on a journey to save her dad? The world of children’s content is wide and various and Kai hopes to explore every bit of it through her creations.
