What I'm doing: I'm thrilled to have two pilots selected as grand prize winners for Emerging Screenwriter's Competitions, STAR SISTERS for Genre and RESTORATION for Sci-Fi & Fantasty! This one is currently in development with Roddeberry Entertainment. My animation feature, THE GOLDEN SNAIL based on the successful picture book by Graeme Base, is being packaged by APA, and I'm currently finishing a Christmas movie script for Hallmark, Crown Media. I'm the recipient of several directing awards including the Featured Filmmaker for the Colorado Indie Spirit Film Festival and am directing a new short film this fall called UNDER.
What I write: I write strong, adventurous, flawed and compelling female characters. The unique worlds I build around these characters range from high schools and paranormal oil rigs to Venetian masquerade balls and an animated Bermuda Triangle-- because my imagination spans genres. I love writing features, but would collaborate well in a writers' room.
Who I am: I grew up in Florida making A’s, doing craft fairs, catching snakes in science club, playing soccer, milking cows, and going to church. My archaeologist dad loved movies, and my teacher mom loved books and writing. I absorbed their addictions. They fought often, but also fought for their marriage. I absorbed their tenacity and independence. My 20’s were spent collecting experiences. In San Francisco, I worked for Ron Howard, got lost every day and swing danced every night. In Rome I worked for Scorsese, rode Vespas, drank too much wine and fell in love. As a barista in Sydney, I finished my first feature as writer/director and I learned to surf. In New York, Berlin, Cannes, Paris and London I pitched projects, rode trains, ate too many crepes and had too many boyfriends. My 30’s I spent working at Sundance, tutoring kids, online dating, designing flowers for weddings, training deaf dogs, creating web series, carting reptiles to children’s parties in my old Volvo, and…always writing. I’ve swum with whales, been bucked off a horse, bungee jumped in South Africa, caught a gator with my hands. I’m now 40, married and a new mother. My feet have slowed but not my energy. I write constantly: features, TV and recently, books. I create characters and worlds that span platforms. Good stories live everywhere.
