Biography

Brendan O'Neill is a screenwriter, producer and director with a range of projects in development – both live action and animation.

He was a Stowe Story Labs Fellowship Finalist in 2021.

He placed "a very, very close" 2nd in the UK national Script to Screen competition in November 2018. This had judges from the BBC and Creative England amonst others.

His short animation script Love & The Divil was one of just six selected in the Best Short Script category for the Animafilm International Film Festival in October 2020.

He graduated from the Filmonomics scheme run by Oscar winning producer Mia Bays in 2018. This was on the back of conceiving and curating #6BestFest in January 2017 which featured 6 new films by British women.

His first film Black Widow (2008) was shot in 48 hours in Birmingham and Madrid on zero budget. It was cited for Best Cast.

In 2010 he won the 2 Weeks 2 Make It Music video competition.

In 2011 he was selected for the Screen West Midlands Regional Producer Mentoring Scheme and mentored by Rachel Robey (London to Brighton, The Levelling).

He was also selected for the 104 Films' Generator scheme which involved attendance at Edinburgh Film Festival 2013 and the London Screenings 2014.

In 2014 he was selected for a UK team pitching at Dragon Forum – part of Krakow International Film Festival. The Dragon Tutors who included Nicola Lees and the other delegates loved my historical children's animation series idea. EAVE finance guru Linda Beath said "I think you've really got something here".

He has put large teams together to make tiny budget, high quality 48 hour shorts on three different occasions. This culminated in winning the UK parliamentary Film The House competition 2015 for WW2 movie Around Again.

He won the Sci-Cine Film Festival Best Short Short in 2016.

He is an alumni of the Royal Court Theatre (London) Critical Mass playwriting scheme 2010.

He won the A & C Black Children’s Book Pitch in 2009 – coming first out of hundreds of entries.
