Biography

During his 20-year military service, Douglas Spaltro traveled the globe, witnessing the best and worst of humankind, and it's the worst that sticks with him the most. He’s since written 8 features, 4 pilots, and 6 shorts since military retirement.

Spaltro’s 1-hour pilot, WASHED, is on Coverfly's Red List, a Shore Scripts 4th Place Winner, Austin Film Festival Second Rounder, and more.  His dramedy feature, CIGAR BOX LETTERS, has earned 16 accolades including the Nicholls 1st 100, 3x Austin FF 2nd Rounder, 2x Page SF, and 1 QF, Stowe QF, and more. His feature, STILL, a Coverfly Top 1% and recognized by Austin FF, Page, Shore Scripts, Inroads Fellowship, and others. His dark feature, COMPASS, earned a Page Finalist,  Final Draft Top-10, Oaxaca Film Festival Finalist, California Film Awards 3rd Place, and Creative Worlds Quarterfinalist. Altogether, Douglas's projects have garnered 80 + awards and accolades.

Disheartened with the state of the world, he wrote, produced, and directed his first short film, APPLE, about the last two people on Earth - a ten-year-old boy and girl. It earned him Best Director at the Austin Indie Fest, and numerous others awards and accolades. His 9-year-old daughter not only starred in APPLE, but she also composed and performed the haunting theme song)

Douglas is now in preproduction of his next short, MILLY & MILO, a trans gender love story between two Vietnam vets reuniting late in life, negotiating the adversities of age, race, and gender.
