Biography

Emma Barrow is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. She comes from a family of artists and has a BFA in Acting from California Institute of the Arts. Her writing often centers complex intergenerational family dynamics and her goal is to tell compelling stories centering Native people. She was a 2022 ISA Fast Track Fellow, made it to the second round consideration for the Warner Brothers TV Writers lab, was a fellow of the Native American Media Alliance's 4th Annual Feature Writers Lab, the co-writer of a feature that made second round of the Sundance Development Track, the Northwest Screenwriters Guild 2021 Stowe Story Labs Fellow and a fellow of the Native American Media Alliance’s 5th Annual TV Writers Lab.


Her feature, Other Plans, earned her a fellowship spot along with being the a genre winner for the ISA Fast Track Fellowship, it was a 2022 PAGE Awards quarter-finalist, Top Ten in the Table Read My Screenplay - Genre Competition, a semi-finalist for the 26th Annual Fade In Awards First Ten Pages Competition. Her short film, Cover Me, was an official selection of FLICKFAIR Film Festival and the 14th Annual LA Skins Fest. It received honorable mention from the Santa Monica International Film Festival. Her pilot, Thrill Hills, was a semi-finalist in the 25th Annual Fade In Awards TV Pilot/Web Series Competition. She was recently a judge for the Fort Smith International Film Festival’s Indigenous category and for the Cherokee Nation Film Office’s “OklaHomies 2, Still at Home” Short Film Contest.

She adapted Other Plans into a short script which was shot in 2023 and is currently in post production.
