His feature film debut, “VOLVERTE A VER” (TO SEE YOU AGAIN) is a visual romantic comedy he directed and screen adapted in Mexico featuring Alfonso Herrera (lead actor in Fox's The Exorcist). He also wrote and directed DESTINS CROISÉS (Crossed Destinies), a short thriller shot and edited in 48hrs (festival rules) in Quebec, Canada as a guest artist for the KINOMADA PROJECT. Gustavo also directed the documentary ELYPSE: A JOURNEY INTO SOUND for Multi-Grammy Award-winning band CAMILA.

He recently co-wrote UMBRAL (THRESHOLD) a supernatural thriller pilot and pitch-deck set in Madrid, Spain with Luis Murillo Arias (Writer and Exec.Prod. of the successful RTVE, Onza and Viacom CBS series "PAROT" which as selected for the Madrid Online Pitchbox at Filmarket Hub.
His character-driven drama THE EXILE, follows a federal judge with early-onset Alzheimer's who leaves his family behind to make amends with those he wronged in his past... now vanishing. Top Finalist in the Final Draft Big Break Contest, FILMMATIC INROADS FELLOWSHIP, BARCELONA FILM FESTIVAL and the STARZ Denver Film Festival. Gustavo also wrote FAITH, a thriller TV series commissioned by SONY PICTURES TELEVISION INTERNATIONAL. He has also taken seminars and private consults with Hollywood screenwriting guru Jen Grisanti and Wendy Kram among many.
He has just finished writing WE ARE RAMPAGE, a dramedy adventure about a renegade spirit who leads a band of misfits to kidnap seniors and terminally-ill patients to make them experience the most wonderful 24 hours in their lives.
He recently wrote ECLIPSES, a coming of age story about an African Amercan teen cello prodigy with Asperger's and severe childhood traumas who achieves greatness with the help of a forgotten yet vibrant Italian composer.
Gustavo also wrote two SCI-FI projects: REMEMBER YOU WILL DIE, a suspense drama/thriller about a couple's struggle to survive supernatural events after a post-nuclear disaster and BIOSPHERE 3.1, a thriller TV series about a rebel young android programmed to kill who goes through a spiritual awakening in her last mission inside a holistic rehab facility.
Gustavo was also invited as Jury at the prestigious Guanajuato International Film Festival in Mexico.
Gustavo’s strong visual style incorporates lyrical elements in his work, always following a surreal and poetic sense of narrative storytelling. The director explains: “I always strive to connect with the mysterious, the uncanny and the emotional elements in life to provoke an active participation in the viewer.”
As a director, Gustavo has worked with superstars such as Shakira, Ricky Martin, J. Balvin, Vanessa Williams, legend Johnny Cash, Vonda Shepard, Lila Downs, Oscar de la Hoya, Luis Fonsi, Mana, Juanes, Cafe Tacuba, Gloria Estefan, Alejandro Sanz, Crystal Waters, Paulina Rubio, Camila, Jesse & Joy and the double Academy Award winner, music producer/composer Gustavo Santaolalla, who composed the soundtracks for “Babel”, “Brokeback Mountain”, “Motorcycle Diaries”, “21 Grams” and “Amores Perros” among many.
He has directed near 200 music videos and 100+ hip and visually strong TV commercials for clients such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi, HSBC, Astra–Zeneca, Volkswagen, McDonald’s, Microsoft, Procter & Gamble, Samsung, Wal-Mart, Kimberly-Clark, and Kellogg's along with promos for TV shows "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" and "Entertainment Tonight", for Paramount Pictures’ UPN. He has also directed the Latin Grammy 2006 campaign for WALMART. He recently directed a campaign for 7UP and Dr Pepper. Gustavo has also directed soundtrack tie-in projects for feature films such as “Crazy, Beautiful” with Kirsten Dunst for Disney, “Zapata”, "Dance With Me", "Drive Me Crazy" and for Fox’s animated film “Anastasia”.
Born in Argentina and living in the U.S since 1982 (a U.S.citizen since 1994), Gustavo obtained a B.F.A. in Film at SUNY College at Purchase Film Dept. He later received a fellowship to study at the prestigious UCLA M.F.A. Program in Animation, where he also studied screenwriting. While in New York, he had a One Person Show the Personal Cinema Series at the Millenium Film Workshop.
The writer/director has adapted the screenplay EXPEDIENTE No.6353 (FILE No. 6353), a screen adaptation of the Mexican award-winning novel "Nadie Me Verá Llorar" (NO ONE WILL SEE ME CRY) from writer Cristina Rivera Garza, an engrossing drama set inside Mexico City’s Mental Hospital in the 1920's . Novelist CARLOS FUENTES calls the book, “one of the most beautiful and perturbing novels ever written in Mexico.” He also wrote the screenplay adaptation of PALOMAR, A LOVE AND ROCKETS STORY, from the famed graphic novel by comic-book pioneer Gilbert Hernandez.
Gustavo has also written specs for the AMC series “BREAKING BAD” and HBO’S “IN TREATMENT”.
