Jim Spivey was born and raised in Oklahoma, spent his high school years in New Mexico, and is a graduate of Lewis & Clark College in Oregon. His first job out of college was with Portland-based comics publisher Dark Horse Comics, and he continued his career in comics and graphic novels when he later moved to New York City to join the editorial staff of DC Comics. While at DC, Jim edited such titles as Hawkman and Deathstroke the Terminator, and was privileged to work with and learn from such mentors as Archie Goodwin, one of the comic industry's leading editor/writers, Dennis O'Neil, a groundbreaking writer of Batman, Green Lantern, and Green Arrow, and Superman writer and TV writer/producer Martin Pasko. After several years at DC, Jim joined Warner Books, later Hachette Book Group, where he was the first managing editor of the company's manga imprint, Yen Press. Most recently, Jim left NYC behind to return to the Pacific Northwest and set up shop as Working Vacation Studios, through which he provides editorial and book production services for a variety of publishing clients while also pursuing his writing career.
In addition to authoring screenplays, Jim has written comic scripts for Rugrats Comic Adventures magazine, Archie Comics, and Dark Horse Comics.
