Serving in the military and academia made Kate fall in love with ambitious outsiders fighting against the world - and their families. Earning a PhD and winning a book prize let her call herself a writer. In 2022, Kate participated in the Outfest Screenwriters Lab with her historical drama BLACK WATERS. In 2023 she completed a short film, GREEN, about her experience as a military veteran and college professor. In 2024, she completed the WGF Veteran's Writing Project which provided yearlong mentoring from WGA writers. Kate is currently the the Josepshon Entertainment Feature fellow thanks to her win at Austin Film Festival.
