God bless the J.K. Rowling's of the world that can write anytime, anywhere. I was not one of them. I needed quiet. And, raising three kids by birth and a few kids of the heart, life was a little too chaotic and a lot too noisy to spew out a Harry Potter rival. Having a vivid imagination, a wicked sense of humor, and a knack for the vernacular, I knew someday, perhaps in my old age, I'd be the writer I always wanted to be.
I've always lived an adventurous life. Never afraid to try something new, not able to resist a dare, and always one to rise to the challenge of "Don't tell me I can't do it, because I will prove you wrong," much to the chagrin of my family and friends, in my 50's I walked from Canada to Mexico as a homeless awareness fundraiser.
I started out writing crap, convincing myself it was good crap. Gradually it got a little better, moving up to pretty good, and now it seems I may actually know what I’m doing. Being one of the Kay Snow award winners for Holding onto Rain, the first screenplay I ever wrote, and a finalist in the Moondance Film Festival for the same movie was quite an honor! I am happy to say the pen I picked up has now leaked 9 screenplays, 2 children's books, and more than 500 pages of a memoir. I am currently working on two television series, one purely a figment of my imagination. The other however follows a series of murders that happened in my own neck of the woods, Vancouver, Washington, and Portland, Oregon.
Now I don’t have any particular genre (which may make some managers, agents, and producers cringe) but I will say I love true stories. So, whether it’s a comedy, thriller, drama, or true crime more than half of what I’ve written actually happened! No matter which one you choose, I hope to make you laugh, cry, hide under the covers, or just plain sigh with contentment.
