Biography

Mark Mc Quown is the co-screenwriter of the feature, “PJ”, (now titled, "Heavens Messenger") starring John Heard, Vincent Pastore, Robert Picardo, and Hailey Kate Eisenberg and company. This film is partially based on Mark’s award-winning play of the same title.  

Mark as a screenplay contest winner has garnered the following;  “The Rocking Horse Christmas”, first place in the animation genre at The Santa Clarita International Film Festival in 1997, Quarter Finalist in The Chesterfield Screenplay Fellowship in 1997 with “Pier 21”,  Semi-Finalist in The Chesterfield in 1998 with “The China Tiger”,  Quarter Finalist in 2000 in Scriptapalooza with, “ Jane The Legend of Mountain Charley”, Finalist in The International Family Film Festival 2005 with the animated feature, “The Cat and The Rat” (co-screenwriter), Quarter Finalist in The Fade In Magazine Screenplay Contest in 2005 with, “The Missing Link” and  Quarter Finalist in The Zoetrope contest in 2007 with “The Sudan”.  Mark is also an award-winning playwright with over ten finished scripts with half of that material produced.  Mark has an MFA in Directing for the Stage from The School of Theatre, Film, and Television at UCLA.  He has taught playwriting at Pasadena City College for the Theatre Arts Department and he has taught screenwriting at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy of Los Angeles where he is presently a faculty and staff member.  Mark is a Union actor and member of The Screen Actors Guild and Actors Equity Association.  He is also a member of the New York Dramatist Guild and The Association of Los Angeles Playwrights (ALAP).

Mark has worked for Film and Television as an Art Director (credits available on IMDB) for over twenty years.  Mark has completed to date 29 full-length screenplays with one screenplay produced and 10 screenplays that placed in Quarter or Finalist positions in contests and festivals. Two of the screenplays are adaptations from books, five of the scripts were co-written with different screenwriters and one of the scripts was taken from an unpublished story. Mark lives in Valencia, California with his wife who works as a professional costumer for Palace Costumes in Hollywood, and his two children who are Ian (a senior at UCLA in Musical Theatre) and Erin (junior at Hart High School with skills in dancing, singing and acting. I am available in the time periods this group meets and I am more than eager to read a script on a timed basis and be able to discuss the material in the forum you have provided.
