From Atlanta, Georgia, Michael Hale is a teacher, filmmaker, writer, and musician. When not teaching college or high school filmmaking classes, he is submitting his short films to festivals, shooting music videos, and writing screenplays or nonfiction. On the weekends, his musical endeavors take him all over the United States.
He has a degree in English with a minor in film from Kennesaw State University – where he studied screenwriting under Jeffery Stepakoff (Dawson’s Creek, The Wonder Years). After taking time to tour with various bands, he resumed his education at Full Sail University – earning an MFA in film production.
Michael is a two-time winner of a fellowship to Rocaberti writers retreat. His first in the summer of 2019 with comedy writer Martin Olsen (Phineas and Ferb, Rocko’s Modern Life) where they workshopped Michael’s dark high school drama Lockers. The screenplay later became a finalist at the Oaxaca International Film Festival. Last year, he was awarded a Fulbright fellowship to shoot an educational documentary in Tanzania.
