Biography

Born and raised in China, Ran is an award-winning writer, director, and animator who has crafted stories across various languages and mediums, focusing on themes of identity, immigration, and belonging. A graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, her debut feature, MODEL, was featured in Variety China and earned accolades at several Oscar-qualifying festivals. It received the Emerging Director Award at the Edmonton International Film Festival and the New Talent Award at the 25th Shanghai International Film Festival. The film had a theatrical release in China in 2021.

Before transitioning to live-action films, Ran worked as a story artist for major animation studios such as Blue Sky Studios, Netflix, and Reel FX, contributing to films like SPIES IN DISGUISE, THE PEANUTS MOVIE, the ICE AGE franchise, and WISH DRAGON.

Her scripts have won CineStory Scholarships, placed in the Top 100 of the Launch Pad Feature Competition, and reached the semi-finals of the Nicholl Fellowships. She has written mini-series for Viu TV in Hong Kong and features for Ruyi Films and is currently developing her second feature film, A PROFILED LIFE.
