Black List Recommended screenwriter Suzanne Griffin creates darkly romantic and dangerous dramas centered in female agency and desire, whose fierce, witty protagonists risk everything to reinvent themselves and the world around them. Her advocacy for her learning-disabled and now college-enrolled son has fueled her passion for writing outsider characters battling to make their voices heard. Suzanne’s themes reflect her journey as a mature female writer: self-determination, alliances among women, and the healing power of empathy. Her goal is to create dynamic female and queer characters who smash stereotypes, and whose journeys will speak to anyone fighting to take full control of their voice and their narrative.
Suzanne was mentored by showrunners JaNeika James and JaSheika James (Gossip Girl, Bel-Air) and Emmy-winning producer Jamila Jordan-Theus through the 2022 Women in Film Mentoring Program. Winner of the Stowe Story Labs/PAGE Awards Fellowship for her drama pilot THE SENSUALIST, Suzanne is twice a Nicholl Semifinalist, a CineStory TV Fellowship Finalist, a Filmarket Hub TV Pilot Winner, a Diverse Voice Screenplay Lab Finalist, and an Austin Film Festival Screenwriting Competition Finalist. Her scripts have received six 8s on the Black List, and she has 5 screenplays in the Top 1% on Coverfly. Suzanne was awarded a Coverfly Mentorship, as well as a Coverfly Virtual Read. Suzanne received her MFA from NYU Graduate Film, with prizes in producing and directing. She is based in Brooklyn, NY - her frequent muse.
